Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about registering, running, and getting verified on AnyDayRun.

What is age-graded scoring?
Age-graded scoring compares your finish time against the world standard for your exact age and gender using WMA (World Masters Athletics) tables, producing a percentage score. It means runners of any age can be ranked fairly on the same leaderboard, not just by raw time. It only applies to Run events — there's no WMA standard for walking pace, so Walk events (including Monthly Walking Distance) are ranked on raw time/distance only.
How does AnyDayRun prevent cheating?
Every synced Strava activity is automatically checked against five gates before it counts: the right activity type (Run/Virtual Run, or Walk/Hike for walk events), a minimum distance for the event, a pace ceiling (sub-2:40/km for runs, sub-6:40/km for walks — well beyond real human limits, to catch vehicle assistance), a minimum cadence (135 steps/min for runs, 60 for walks, to catch the same), and a cap on idle/paused time (3 minutes for runs, 7 minutes for timed walks, and up to 30 minutes for monthly cumulative walking challenges). Runs that fail any gate are flagged with the specific reason and excluded from scoring and leaderboards — visible on your dashboard. If you think a run was flagged wrongly, email support@anydayrun.in — flags get reviewed.
What happens if I run farther than my registered event's distance?
You're automatically credited toward the highest distance among your own registrations that your run covers. For example, if you're registered for both the 10K and the Half Marathon and you run 15K, that clears the 10K target (10km) but not the Half (21.0975km) — so it counts toward your 10K, not the Half.
How is my time calculated if I run a different distance than my event target?
AnyDayRun scales your pace to the event's exact target distance using simple proportional extrapolation: estimated time = your elapsed time × (target distance ÷ your distance). For example, if you run 7km in 42 minutes — a 6:00/km pace — and that's credited to a 5K event, your estimated 5K time is 30 minutes, the same 6:00/km pace applied to 5km. Results calculated this way from a materially longer run are marked "(Est.)" on the leaderboard, your dashboard, and your finisher card, so it's always clear when a time reflects pace extrapolation rather than an exact finish.
Do I need a GPS watch, or will my phone work?
A phone works. Anything that records a run to Strava is fine — phone, GPS watch, or fitness band. AnyDayRun connects to your Strava account and picks up qualifying activities automatically. Phone-recorded runs often have no cadence data at all — that's fine, and won't count against you.
Which watches and apps work?
Anything that syncs to Strava: Garmin, Apple Watch, Samsung, Amazfit, Noise, boAt, Fire-Boltt, Coros, Polar, or the Strava app on your phone. AnyDayRun reads the activity from Strava, so the device itself doesn't matter.
Is there a medal, T-shirt or certificate?
AnyDayRun is digital-only right now — you get a shareable finisher card and your place on the monthly leaderboard, but no physical medal or T-shirt.
What Strava permissions does AnyDayRun ask for?
AnyDayRun requests activity:read_all to automatically detect and verify your qualifying runs, and activity:write so that, if you choose to enable the optional auto-quotes feature, it can append motivational quotes to your workout titles. We never delete activities or modify your private data. You can disconnect AnyDayRun anytime from your Strava account settings.
How does the Strava quote auto-renaming feature work?
When you opt in, AnyDayRun can automatically append an inspiring, humorous, fitness, or investing quote to your Strava activity title whenever your workout syncs (for example: Morning Run — "The pain you feel today is the strength you feel tomorrow."). You can pick your favorite vibe (Motivation, Fitness, Humor, Investing, or All) and pause, resume, or switch categories with one click directly from your dashboard.
What if my Strava activity is private?
Private activities are included. AnyDayRun's Strava permission (activity:read_all) covers your private activities as well as public ones, and we check them the same way. Nothing about a private activity is made public beyond what already appears on the leaderboard — your name, time, and score.
How soon does my run appear?
Usually within a minute or two — AnyDayRun processes most activities the moment Strava notifies me. If that notification is delayed, a backup check runs every few minutes, and a full resync runs hourly as a last resort. There's no manual refresh button yet; if your run still hasn't appeared after an hour, email me at support@anydayrun.in.
My run got flagged and I didn't cheat. What now?
Email support@anydayrun.in with your BIB number and the Strava activity link and I'll look at it personally. The automated checks are deliberately strict, and city traffic, run-walk intervals, or a hilly route can occasionally trip them. Flags get reviewed.
How do BIB numbers work?
Every runner is assigned a permanent 4-digit Athlete BIB number as soon as they complete their profile. It stays with you across every challenge you enter. You can preview, download, and share your personal social and print BIB cards directly from your runner dashboard anytime.
How do I register for a monthly event?
Connect your Strava account, complete your profile, then pick a distance category for the current month's event and register directly on the site — no third-party ticketing required.
Can I run on a treadmill?
Yes. Log the activity as "Virtual Run" in Strava (Strava's own category for treadmill and indoor runs) and it will be picked up and audited the same as an outdoor run.
Can I split the distance across multiple runs?
Depends on the event. For 5K/10K/Half/Full and Walk 5K, no — a single Strava activity must cover the full target distance; distances aren't combined across sessions. The one exception is the Monthly Walking Distance event: it's scored cumulatively, so every valid walk during the month (each at least 200m, to filter out GPS noise) adds to your running monthly total.
Do I need to submit proof, and can I try again if a run doesn't count?
There's no manual proof to submit — every activity synced from Strava during the event window is checked automatically. For 5K/10K/Half/Full and Walk 5K, you can run as many times as you like within the window; your best valid attempt is the one that counts. For the cumulative Monthly Walking Distance event, every valid activity counts — there's no single "best" attempt, your total for the month just keeps growing.
How does the Monthly Walking Distance event work?
It's the one cumulative-scoring event: instead of a single target distance, every valid walk (or hike) you log during the month adds to your running total, and the leaderboard ranks total distance covered, not finish time. There's no age-graded score for it — WMA has no standard for walking pace — so it's ranked on raw distance only. Your live total is on your dashboard under "Standing."
Can I have AnyDayRun register me automatically every month?
Yes — tick "Auto-register me for this event every month" when you register. Each time next month's event opens, you're registered again automatically in the same tier. Your dashboard shows whether it's on for each of your registrations, with a "Turn Off"/"Turn On" button to change it any time. Toggling it never changes your current registration — the event, tier, and payment status you already have stay exactly as they are for this month either way; it only decides whether next month's event registers you automatically.
How do runner streaks and milestone tier badges work?
A streak counts consecutive calendar months where you have completed at least one qualifying run or walk in an AnyDayRun event. Maintaining your streak unlocks permanent tier badges: Tier 1 Regular (3 months), Tier 2 Steady (6 months), and Tier 3 AnyDayRunner (12 months). Your active streak displays with a flame badge (e.g. 🔥 4m) on leaderboards, trophy cases, and finisher cards. If you miss a month, your active streak restarts at 0, but your earned tier badge and Personal Best streak stay permanently on your profile!
What is the Annual "12 of 12" Season Challenge?
The Annual Season Challenge tracks whether you complete a verified challenge finish in each of the 12 calendar months (January through December) of a calendar year. As you progress through the season, you unlock milestone honors: Bronze Finisher (3 of 12 months), Silver Finisher (6 of 12 months), Gold Finisher (9 of 12 months), and the elite Grand Slam Finisher (all 12 of 12 months). You can track your progress with an interactive 12-month calendar tracker on your dashboard and view platform-wide rankings on the Annual Season Leaderboard.
How do public runner profiles and privacy settings work?
Each athlete has a permanent public profile (/profile/{bib}) showcasing their verified event history, personal bests for standard distances (5K, 10K, Half), active streak, and trophy case. You have full privacy control: in your Profile Settings, you can choose how your name displays (e.g. "Tushar J." vs full name), toggle whether your profile is searchable by search engines, or keep your profile private (returning a clean 404). Sensitive personal information like your email, phone, and birthdate are never displayed.
How does the Strava activity description sync work?
When your qualifying run passes all anti-cheat checks, AnyDayRun can automatically append your verified finish time, pace, active streak count, milestone tier unlocks, and links to your finisher certificate and trophy case to your Strava activity description. Any workout notes you already typed in Strava are strictly preserved and never overwritten. You can turn this feature on or off anytime with one click in your Profile Settings.
